New Year, New You!

This is Avon's motto as we begin 2012.   I like it.    But let me say, I don't believe in setting New Year's resolutions.    Why?   Because of the origin of that practice.   It has to do with Roman worship of the god Janus (from where we get the month January).    So do I think setting a goal means I worship Janus?   No, but setting a bunch of them just at this time is a little creepy and too close to Janus for comfort!   Besides, New Year's resolutions really don't work!    In a few weeks they are usually abandoned and we haven't made any real progress in our lives!

That said, we do need to set goals to improve our lives.    If we don't, we just drift through life and one day, at the end of it, will regret the time we have wasted.

So lets think about it.  What is important in our lives?   Family, friends, faith, health, education, prosperity.....    Probably all of that and more.   We need to make daily goals for improvement, goals we can actually accomplish instead of some long list we will get discouraged about and abandon in a month.

I like the motto New Year, New You.   I think we should carry it further :   New Day, New You.   Everyday is a new opportunity for improvement.   Everyday is a chance to do the right thing.   Every day starts with the same amount of hours to be either wasted or to benefit us and those around us.

So lets think about it and get specific over the next few days.   We have an opportunity for a New Year, New You!!!
